Regional Director/Director of Development

Northwest-West Region





This position is responsible for securing major gift commitments of $5,000+ in support of the mission and programs of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) by collaborating with NWTF staff and volunteers, and personally cultivating and soliciting major gifts. This Position is also responsible for volunteer recruitment and communication, organizing and servicing all NWTF committees and fundraising events/activities within the assigned region.  This position reports to the Director of Field Operations (DFO).



  1. Is responsible for maintaining and growing a diverse portfolio of fundraising activities in the region including, but not limited to, one annual Hunting Heritage Banquet per chapter.
  2. Identify, qualify, cultivate and solicit major gifts from individuals, foundations and corporations that are part of the regional prospect portfolio to support the conservation and hunting heritage mission of NWTF.
  3. Cultivate and manage relationships with donors who contribute $5000 or more, with a focus on donors at the $25,000 level and above.
  4. Effectively and promptly, respond to donor and volunteer inquiries through written correspondence, telephone contact and email.
  5. Actively researches, identifies, and recruits new volunteers and major donors for NWTF.
  6. Is responsible for maintaining and solidifying, through volunteer recruitment and personal leadership, all existing NWTF Local Chapters and fundraising events in the region.
  7. Is responsible for developing and establishing, through volunteer recruitment and personal leadership, new NWTF Local Chapters and fundraising events in the region.
  8. Is responsible for their respective goals and objectives including, but not limited to, annual budgeted fundraising and controllable expense levels.
  9. Ensures compliance with NWTF established operating and reporting procedures for activities within their region and their personal scope of business.
  10. Is responsible for maintaining accurate volunteer and chapter contact information in NWTF database.
  11. Communicates with their DFO, National Headquarters staff, Regional NWTF Conservation staff, Local Chapter volunteers and leaders, and State Board of Directors on a regular basis.
  12. Works with State Chapter President, state agencies, and other NWTF staff to develop a strong State Chapter and State Super Fund to ensure effective partnerships for NWTF mission delivery within the state(s).
  13. Promotes NWTF, its mission, and initiatives to NWTF members, within local communities, to local media, and other organizations.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor's degree in Sales, Marketing, Management or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship and team building skills.
  • Excellent communication skills: written, verbal, and listening
  • Commitment to personally cultivating, soliciting, and closing major gift commitments
  • Strong planning, organization, leadership, and management skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in using Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other software
  • Experience in using computer-based information systems in support of fundraising programs
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively in performance of responsibilities
  • Valid driver's license
  • Reliable vehicle and ability to establish a home office


Work Environment/Physical Activity

  • Work involves extensive driving.
  • Subject to both inside and outside locations with variable temperature and weather conditions and may involve walking on uneven ground
  • May be required to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 50 pounds




The selected candidate will have a strong affinity for NWTF's mission of securing the future of conservation and our hunting heritage.  They will be a self-starter who has the ability to work independently as well as part of a team and is driven to succeed. Knowledge of the region's philanthropic community and interest in outdoor conservation and hunting activities are also desired. The successful candidate will be expected to reside in a mutually agreed upon location in the region.
