POSITION SUMMARY: The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) is seeking qualified candidates for a term limited (3-yr minimum), full-time coordinator position overseeing hunting and shooting sports recruitment, retention and reactivation (R3) programs in the state of Arizona. This position is a cooperative effort between the NWTF and the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGF) and will be responsible for coordinating and collaborating with various partnership organizations to assess gaps in current hunting and shooting sports R3 programming. The position will be located in the AZGF Department Headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona. The coordinator will be responsible for implementing efforts to develop clear and measurable pathways for hunting and shooting sports R3 in Arizona. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.


  • Create a framework for collaboration between stakeholders that provides the foundation for

enhanced communication and coordination of hunter recruitment programs

  • Coordinate with existing hunting and shooting sports outreach staff in Arizona
  • Develop a mentoring coalition focusing stakeholder efforts on common goals
  • Assess the various gaps that exist in recruitment pathways in Arizona
  • Expand capacity within new and current stakeholders for programs that fill current gaps in recruitment, retention and reactivation efforts.
  • Develop tools to enhance the identification of potential participants for hunting and shooting sports outreach efforts
  • Align new and existing mentoring efforts/outreach programs with models of success
  • Coordinate efforts to evaluate current and new programs
  • Assist in the blending of the National Hunting and Shooting Sports R3 Plan with new and existing state efforts
  • Develop mentored hunting outreach (social networks) with key partners, youth and family organizations
  • Maintain data matrix to monitor hunting demographics in Arizona for program analysis
  • Create tools for partners to help mentees to locate mentoring opportunities
  • Work with Hunter Outreach Coordinator to create and implement a template for mentor selection and development in Arizona
  • Volunteer development and management
  • Assist with various programs where applicable including: NWTF & other partner, education/outreach programs (Women in the Outdoors, JAKES, etc.), AZGF HAHWG program, Expos, Mentor hunts, Becoming an Outdoors-Woman/Family
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned


  • Undergraduate degree in education, fish and wildlife management, biology, conservation, natural resources management or similar related field
  • Experience in performing above or similar duties
  • An understanding of Arizona conservation organizations, hunting, fishing and shooting sports, and local/National hunting and shooting sports partnership efforts
  • Understanding of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation
  • Ability to work irregular schedules including some weekends, evenings and overnight stays
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work with limited supervision, self-motivated and able to motivate others
  • Able to meet requirements to operate a state of Arizona vehicle
  • Able to work with diverse audiences
  • Experience preferred in administering and coordinating outdoor education programming, partnership development and support, and volunteer management.
  • Knowledge of current R3 efforts both locally and National
  • Ability to think and act both creatively and strategically to further hunting & shooting sports R3 efforts
  • Experience with strategic planning, and leading diverse stakeholder groups in planning efforts
